Adverts on TV

Do adverts on TV bother you? Do you feel that they interrupt the flow of a film/programme?

Are adverts more hard sell now than broadcast as part of the entertainment package? (I used to love the Brook Bond tea with the chimps, Nescafe Gold Blend (because it was so cheesy), the Oxo adverts) but now I find them irritating. I don't know if it's because there are too many of them or they go on too long or they are just hard sell. Would people still subscribe to Sky if they couldn't fast-forward the ad breaks?

Re: Adverts on TV

We don't watch them as they all irritate us. We usually watch BBC progs, but if we want to view something on a commercial channel we usually record it first then forward wind the ads.

But have they always irritated you? Or were there some that you liked?

We always fast forward the ads, but, if something catches our eye, very rare - we rewind to watch it ! Loved the Gertcha' ads by Chas n Dave (beer ad)

Crikey - I'd forgotten those ads.

Do you fast forward them Pats because they're not entertaining (just wondering if ads are more hard sell now - I've noticed that part of my original post has gone missing where I asked that question!)

They have always irritated us and then some. Our children had to pray anything on their Christmas wish list hadn't been advertised on TV as they certainly wouldn't get it. My husband was of the opinion any toy that was heavily advertised was rubbish.

I like the Aldi adds. Some of them are amusing.

We don't watch the ads either, they irritate us too ... if we do watch commercial channels, we mute but you do lose continuity. Decent programmes are recorded, so we can fast forward too.
Remember the Esso ads? "Esso sign means happy motoring"
