Might be dead

Loud bang a few minutes ago, dogs went mad, looked out the window and it seems a wood pigeon had hit our living room window so hard it had been knocked out. Went down with a box to pick it up and only just beat the cats that were stalking over to get it, got it upstairs and in a warm dark place hoping it would recover but just had a peek and it doesn't look very alive. Will wait until Steven gets home for him to check it but I am fairly sure it isn't alive.

Poor thing we love watching them in the oak tree and bouncing around the garden really feel guilty it was our window that it flew into.

Quite upset me it has

Re: Might be dead

It may be wise to put those stickers on your windows to prevent this happening again Julie. They do work

We have stickers already as I asked here last time we had a casualty. They just don't seem to see them at certain times of the year I think it's how the sun blinds them as they fly off the oak tree to go over the building.

May have been trying to get away from a sparrowhawk.
They hit our windows at work quite regularly.

OK break the reflection with cling film which does not reflect the garden, sky or sun.

You get such a shock when a bird does hit and killed that anything is worth a try to stop it happening.

That's possible the local council lost theirs recently - they were trying to scare the pigeons in town but it flew away and never came back.

Yes might do what we did in the bedroom and just put up net curtains they never hit that window now so that does work.

Re: Might be dead

We get a lot of feathered casualties here hitting the picture window in the sitting room. Sadly they rarely survive, I think they hit their heads too hard. I have a small graveyard down the lane for them .

Re: Might be dead

Oh Julie it is so upsetting when that happens,

They always seem to dive into our French windows just after they have been washed. The times I have said they are staying mucky.

Mind you the last time it happened we dived out like you to put it in a box before our girls got to it, brought it into the house whilst deciding what to do and to keep the girls outside, the bird woke up and started flying around the living room. I don't know who was more scared at this point. Its not funny but did we scream with laughing afterwards.
