Last night I was going to watch an old Sean Connery film on ITV+4 (channel 24), but when I pressed the remote, a notice came up on screen saying I couldn't watch that channel unless I upgraded to HD.
The film was the 2nd Bond film, From Russia With Love. I watched the second half of it no problem.
The ITV4 Channel IS NOT an HD channel. There are very few HD channels on Freeview and Freesat.
Your ability to see any channel depends where you are in the country, what transmitter your TV aerial is pointing to. Broadcasting masts occasionally have problems with certain channels or groups (multiplexes) of channels.
Are you using Freeview or Freesat?
e.g. do you have an aerial or a satellite dish?
Do you have a Digibox beneath your TV on which you record stuff? If so, that is likely the box that is receiving the TV signal and decoding it.
Most likely you just need to go into the menus of your DigiBox and tell it to do a RESCAN of all the channels. Your's may not have had that done for some time.
Alternatively you might be on Sky? If so you need to state that.
