So does a balanced economy and very carefully managed national debt that has an ongoing mean value of zero. It can be done, there's a few countries who are doing just that very successfully.

Ok, are there any countries that are more comparable with the UK and fit into your success story?

I don't agree. We will certainly never be Switzerland (who will?! who wants to be??). Can you seriously see us having a national crisis here because a train is one minute late? That sums up the economic and working culture of Switzerland.

Russia as a successful economy? Considering their vast resources I would say it's a real tragedy.

I don't rate your examples. We have our own excellent competitive advantages. It's not a good time for any country and we have done our best to try to use our available resources to steer through. Our main weakness is brushing problems under the carpet.

I was surprised that HS2 is still going ahead. Apparently down to job creation.

Successive Socialist governments and Socialist legislation has broken the UK. It has been the cause of destruction of the manufacturing industries and creating a standard of living that is unaffordable. Available resources come from invisible exports and ever increasing issue of Gilts.

Switzerland is 70% reliant on financial services.

Our manufacturing sector was inefficient and expensive. That's why it could not compete. There is a severe lack of strategic thinking in British business. The pandemic is forcing businesses to rethink and cut out deadwood. But when we have business as usual there is a lazy and complacent attitude.

But we do have the infrastructures and that is what the furlough was protecting. It would cost a great deal more than what's been spent to rebuild from scratch.

Our manufacturing sector certainly was inefficient and expensive precisely because of unions and Socialist legislation.

What will emerge to become the new normal will be hugely different to what was so attempting to featherbed what was is a waste of money.

Forget furlough - that was / is a terrible if well intentioned mistake. Mass layoffs with means tested Benefits was the way to have gone and should've taking place now

It was bad, out of touch and unimaginative management that killed our manufacturing sector.

Many businesses will be unchanged in structure post Covid. Furlough has helped keep them solvent. That is as I said cheaper than building up businesses from scratch.
