I remember my ex-father in law doing that to kittens on their farm. I was horrified. This was made even worse because the wicked old s*d used to let the mother rear them for 7 or 8 weeks and then do it, and by then of course, the kittens had their eyes open and were growing well. I told my husband that if he had the females neutered in the first place, they wouldn't be forever producing more kittens for his father to kill!!
I never felt FIL approved of me. . .

I can picture it know my uncle searching the barns and out buildings for the kittens , sometimes they were few weeks old when he found them , he just had no feelings towards animals , like one of his dogs , I basically grew up with one of his dogs for 14 years , she was getting old and basically no use to him , one Sunday we were waiting at the table for tom before dinner was serve , heard a bang , tom walk into the kitchen with one of his shot guns , and he said I just put down sandy , no more said and he started to eat his food , no emotions just job done , I was so angry ,

Re: Dog tail cutting

Years ago I had a doberman that had a docked tail. No idea why but I think it is done when the animal is born, I was told it is like removing rear dewclaws (which I have done) which seems to cause them no distress.

Re: Dog tail cutting

Docking and cropping of ears causes lots of distress both at the time and later in health issues and communication ..

I woud suggest that anyone who thinks its ok should undergo similar surgery themselves first..

Re: Dog tail cutting

Yep but you forgot the 'tail'...

Id also point out that many people still practice home cropping and docking which often entails a pair of cropping shears and no pain relief..
