I have one behind the greenhouse, it's not woody, mines a different colour though, bright yellowy green. They come in greens and a dark purple colour.

The vast majority of weeds are either self seeding or have root runners. If this has been there for years without spreading dozens of others I don't think its a weed.

Muddy I still can't remember but if it is 6ft tall it is not the plant I was thinking of.

Well before I swanned off to Spain I set the garden in order and then as a sop to my future neglect I flung Growmore about with a generous hand .
Perhaps that's the problem

This is my Sambucus, the bright green plant to the left, it looks similar to your plant.
