I do have certain mysogenistic tendencies Gilly and very probably the ostracision is already firmly in place.

Re: When Are You Too Old To Get A Puppy?

Unless everyone in the house wants a pup I think it's unfair to get one .
It also seems a bit unfair to expect a 14 year old dog to cope with a puppy .
It also very much depends on the breed of the puppy . Some toy breeds are happy to potter around the house and garden other dogs are high energy and need lots of exercise .
Can't get the picture to enlarge but looks like a spaniel to me so therefore high energy .
I personally will not get another pup after I'm 60 . With a dogs lifespan being around 14 years that would mean a commitment to my mid 70's .
I would always have a dog however and there are plenty of older dogs in rescues requiring homes .
I have previously rescued an 8 year old dog and I wouldn't hesitate to do so again .

Re: When Are You Too Old To Get A Puppy?

I have a little dog who is fifteen and not at all well, I won't get another one after he passes.
I don't think it's fair, especially on a puppy, as they need lots of exercise and there's alway the possibility of the owner going into hospital or becoming less mobile.
I feel it's a bit selfish unless there is someone else willing to take it on in those circumstances.

Yes they are not going to like taking a ten year old dog for a walk in the rain when she is 76 and he is 81.
She has been very cruel to the animal IMO.

Doesn't this thread just show how easy it is to live someone else's life for them? Pity most of us are not quite as perfect when it comes to running our own

So.....only opinions that agree with any original poster are welcomed, even if opinions are asked for?

An opinion was asked for and given, my life is far from perfect, I find your comments harsh and unnecessary.

Sorry my brand of humour - used against myself more than anyone - doesn't come over. I wasn't intending to offend/criticise
