Re: Popular songs we all know.

Leaving on a Jet plane was written by John Denver in 1966 the year England won the World cup, it was recorded by Peter Paul and Mary on an album , it was their # 1 in 1969.

Frank recorded it in 1971 on an album, it was 2minutes 26 seconds long, the length of time to make a brew of tea. The reason I put his version was that I had just been playing some of his CD's.

I remember juke boxes, they took your money, gave you a couple of minutes pleasure and left you broke. lol

You could buy second hand juke box records, but you had to have a piece to put in the middle, so they would go on your record player.

Hadn't thought of that in ages ... the piece you needed to play them on your turntable!

Very well done AB!, you certainly know your old songs, and no googling, excellent.
A lot of the songs were covered by different singers, John Denver I think wrote and sang 'Leaving on a Jet plane', and Jim Reeves also sang 'Please release me'.

Jimmy, with my parents running a concert party back in the 40/50's music was always in the foreground and the time it took for a song was high lighted as to how long the next act would have before they needed to be on stage.

Just like Bruce Willis in Hudson Hawk everything was time to the second. lol
