Whales up close

I woke at 5am, saw a beautiful sunrise then navigated the Brunswick Bar, with Glenn on the helm.
What happened next was unbelievable; a wonderful up close experience with whales as they approached our boat and stayed and interacted for 30 minutes.
They were so very curious.
They frolicked around and under our white bottomed boat, diving and rolling onto their backs exposing their lovely white tummy.

Lace Monitor

Goannas (the Lace Monitor is a species of goanna) are in danger from trying to eat cane toads, so it is good to see them around.
I have heard reports that they are becoming more common again so they must be learning not to eat the toads.
There are two adults and several babies that roam around at home.
This one keeping still so as not to be noticed, but keeping an eye on me to make sure I didn't come too close.

Mycena chlorophos

Omphalotus nidiformis is the luminous fungi that is often seen down south, but up here (Northern Rivers) we also get Mycena chlorophos, which has a much brighter glow.
The best examples can provide enough light to read by.
They appear in the heat of summer when it is wet. This one grew in my fungarium, which is warm and wet, even in Spring.

Today is special. Yes, we've had offspring from the community flock, but this is different. This morning we welcomed our first lamb from (one of) the ewes we bought, sired by our beautiful ram "Bob". This one is all "ours" and we have a handful more to come. Welcome little one....
