My first husband and his family are from Alabama..Can't get much more Southern than that... They had some really great sayings.. Loved my Mother in Law.. and still keep in contact with some of the family... just not my ex..

The phrase is very old and is referred to in John Lydgate's Chronicle of Troy, 1430:

I don't like it when young girls wear provocative sayings on tshirts.
Also we saw a real creep of a person walking in Walmart the other day, big burly bald guy. The reason I say "creep" is because he had a big mouth & you could hear him swearing too.

He had a lovely black shirt that read "I'm not prejudice, I hate everybody"
Just wonderful, the great unwashed walking around these days!

People in the American South all have Irish and English roots. That was my ex's ancestry.. although his family has gone back to the 1700's in our south.. and fought in our civil war. There is also an American Coot... which I posted the pic of.

Yep... everyone here seems mean these days.. only here they carry guns.. and USE them.. Talk about the wild wild West.. They all think they're cowboys having a shoot out at the OK Corral..
