The Class 40 has been my favourite diesel since I used to watch them pulling Shell Oil tankers across the back of Ashton Heath from Haydock when I was a lad. All I have to do is hear that whine as they lay the power down and I'm 12 again

That were an English Electric Type 4 when I were a lad, and an early one at that.
I'm a Swindon lad by birth but lived alongside the Lincoln Loop just south of Doncaster during my formative years and became an avid railway enthusiast as a result.
Many locos passed our house on a daily basis, both steam and diesel to start with, and the EE Type 4 was one of them.
I can't remember what the flaps were called on the front to tell you what type of train it was pulling, but the I remember later versions had a split head code, and then a full head code display after that.

I'm interested in anything mechanical so anything with an engine falls in to that category as far as I'm concerned.
