Re: Chinese Coronavirus

The second cohort of Wuhan evacuees has arrived into quarantine on Christmas Island.

Thirty-five Australian citizens and permanent residents landed on the remote island territory just before 5am Thursday.

The group, which included 13 children and infants, had been travelling for 28 hours, flying from Wuhan to Auckland, before boarding an A319 jet which flew to Brisbane, then Exmouth and, finally, Western Australia.

The group touched down just before sunrise on Christmas Island, walking on to buses waiting on the tarmac which drove straight from the airport. All were wearing masks.

They are being kept separate from the other evacuees who enter their 4th day of isolation.

I'm not ready to die just yet and that could quite possibly happen if I caught it as I have poorly lungs having COPD. Call me selfish, that's fine with me but if truth be known there are many people out there thinking just like me.

By the way, there are 3 who have died. We all know flu spreads like wildfire. It is very frightening what is happening.
LQ I don’t wish to sound pedantic or unkind but you are still giving out misinformation in here .
I will take your last sentence first . There are 3 confirmed cases of Coronovirus in the UK not people who have died
Two are in isolation in aNewcastle hospital the third one taken to a London hospital today from Brighton . He had been to Singapore not China .

I am not accusing you of lying , simply giving out misinformation .

The foundations of a place in Scarborough might well be for preparation of people who need isolation to be treated .
I am not accusing you of being selfish but what are the chances of you picking the virus up person to person in the UK ?

Depends on how many friends a person has, supposedly.

Another one in York - taken by people in HasMat suits - from student accommodation and sent to an isolation place - probably Newcastle.

Re: Chinese Coronavirus

Am I the only one who thinks that this seems a tad more serious than Sars? The doctor who first alerted to the seriousness of this has died of the virus. I think the NHS is taking this very seriously. Nothing in the news yet about a new hospital in Scarborough. Perhaps its just a prefab type unit to isolate the infected?

The one in York, all it takes is for that person to sneeze or cough in the student accommodation and infect all those around them. Some of those in the student accommodation decide to drive to meet friends or family who live in another county, not knowing they've been infected because it takes a few weeks for the symptoms to show, according to medical experts (what I've read in the national tabloids).

As others have mentioned, over the years there have been many virus that have killed lots of people around the world, Spanish Flu, swine flu, bird flu BUT they've never been able to get a foothold in the UK even though people have been infected because of the UK's climate, it's not suitable for many viruses to survive. I have a suspicion that this latest virus will go the same way.

Have you a link to that ? Nothing on Sky breaking news ,nor other news agencies about that .
The student was one of two people taken to Newcastle the other day .
A student who contracted coronavirus returned to his apartment but did not come into contact with other residents, the University of York said today.

The unnamed student, who is being treated with a relative at a specialist facility in Newcastle, was not in the Vita Student block on Lawrence Street when he came into contact with the virus but “did return to their room on one occasion and stayed overnight”, the university said, as it moved to reassure other students
