Re: Donald Trump wants teachers armed

I don't think they will ever get Americans to give up their guns. You should read some of the comments of gun owners on US news sites that discuss making changes to the gun laws, and allow the Florida kids to speak out to the public. Some of the vitriol of the NRA supporters is disgusting. Some of them can even spell.

The NRA are too rich and powerful and Republican politicians are happy to accept their donations to support their views. Despite polls saying that 97% of Americans would like to see changes to gun laws.

The least they could do would be to raise the age of buying guns like the AR15 from 18 years old to 21 years of age like it is for hand guns. Oh its 21 to buy alcohol believe it or not but 18 for an AR 15.

Stricter background checks for gun licence applications on a central network. At the moment if your state has strict applications you can travel to another state and buy there or at gun shows that do not require background checks.

The banning of bump stocks and large magazines for extra ammunition that turns rifles into virtual machine guns.

As I stated in another post, Florida lawmakers slapped the faces of the Florida kids who travelled to watch a gun debate only to find that Republican NRA supported lawmakers voted to stop the debate even reaching the floor and then went on to vote that pornography was dangerous to teenagers.

Florida father banging his fist on teenaged sons locked bedroom door.
"What are you doing in there buddy, you better be loading a gun in there and not doing anything else"

An AR15 is a "civilian" version of the military M16 - the latter is fully automatic (up to 700 rounds per minute) and the former is semi-automatic (45 rounds per minute).

The M16 was specifically designed to kill or maim lots of people in a short space of time - the muzzle velocity means that bullets "richochet" inside the body of the victims.

A terrifying weapon, indeed .....
Not strictly so.

The rounds fragment which causes the damage but that all depends on the distance and placement of the round.

Every firearm is lethal and terrifying in the wrong hands, which I'm sure we are all aware of.

It's certainly a problem I hope we never have to deal with.

So staying far away and dodging bullets coming in at 1 per second should keep the "target" safe .....

Re: Donald Trump wants teachers armed

I can understand many teachers wanting to be armed (if they thought there was a danger of such an attack) BUT mainly to protect themselves (and yes, therefore others) rather than go looking for the gunman, when they are at a safe enough distance from him to be unduly threatened.

I don't think it's any kind of answer.
He needs to start listening to the wave of change in his own people.

Hes a business man. He listens to money talking.
Major companies are now withdrawing their support for the NRA (see separate thread)
