Re: Plastic waste, how do we get rid of it?

You can use a sigg bottle for water. It is metal and lasts forever. I have one I use when going on long distance hikes which has little nicks and dents where I've dropped it down a mountain path. All these faddy water bottles with blobby filters and funky colours do not compare to the old sigg bottles. Because they are made of plastic.

They are just debating this on tv from yesterday's house of Lords session. Currently they have been discussing that we should look to recycle our plastics for fuel, and that we should not encourage incineration. Lord Berkeley is just saying that we need to ensure that the nasty fumes from burning plastic appliances are kept to a minimum. Baroness Bakewell is criticising lack of drinking fountains in many local authorities. They were there when she was a child. Why not a total ban on plastic cups? (she asks). She wants action now. She does not think the 25 year plan goes far enough. She says she will probably be dead in 2042. She wants to see a great deal less plastic now.

I never know why people knock the house of lords because they always talk so much sense and have so much knowledge.

I have a strong suspicion that they have been complaining about this for years and have just now had enough. That's usually how things work.

Plastic bags in the shops should go first but the shops wont
stop supplying as they make money from them.

Asda are going to stop the thin bags and supply only 9p ones - went up a penny today.

Supposing you got after paying looked and found you had no money for a bag and then if they refused to give you a free one you asked for a refund on your shopping wonder what would happen!

They should have cardboard boxes at the end for our shopping?

Hi

Go abroad and see what they do.

Very different to here and very little plastic.

In Poland you can buy a single carrot, onion and tomato etc with no packaging.

A pork chop or half a chicken breast, or a single leg or thigh, wrapped in paper.

Fresh every day.

So different to the Supermarkets here

It begs the question "Why can't we do that?" doesn't it?
All to do with the government and businesses being in fear of health and safety claims.

Possibly but like I said China has produced a shed load of plastic over the years.
