Re: Flouncing - What’s it all about

Isn't a flounce an online version of the real world "Tut whilst turning one's back on the offending person and muttering "nob head" as you walk away"?

1. The genuine flounce. This poster has genuinely had enough of the forum , but feels the need to tell everyone so rather than just stop logging in anymore. Rarely seen again.

2. The Bounce flounce. Most frequently seen from those who spend time in the depression/cats/dogs threads. They get their knickers in a knot about something and make lengthy and repeated posts about how they can no longer stand the tyranny/bullying etc but then slide back in to contribute yet another post of their mutt with its legs in the air. Guaranteed to be seen again using the same name, with no evidence of shame about the flounce.

3. The Lazarus flounce. Generally get all excited about some topic involving my country is better than yours/Brexit and make a great noise about posters taking the piss and talking in French and leave. Usually seen a few days later in a new ID, clearly identifiable, but without any open admission of being a reincarnation to allow them to continue using the site they were so adamant they were never going to use again just days before. A Flounce often used by those living in another country or an ex pat.

4. The ‘Stop Me’ flounce. Gives everyone else the chance to beg them to remain - after which they may generously reconsider.

Occasionally falls flat when a poster overestimates his/her popularity and is greeted by either a deafening silence or ribald cries, liberally sprinkled with obscenities, from the cheap seats at the back, celebrating their departure, begging them not to hit their arse with the door on the way out etc. (My personal fave)

And finally..for now that is ..

5. There is the WUM Flounce - the person who comes onto the forum and is deliberately offensive to the target audience and is then forced to retreat amid a deluge of abuse, each individual post ripping him to shreads - Finally disappears with the cry of "haha well i succeeded in winding you lot up haha. ha. ha.... err... please leave me alone now" ( We can but hope).

I have seen a few number 4s in my time

Re: Flouncing - What’s it all about

Please take me to the rest room. I am having flashbacks and need counselling!!

I have only flounced once on here! It was last week for one week as l was told to come back by some members and a VIP!
Then once, for half an hour on another forum. That’s not bad for all the 8 years, l have belonged to Forums!

There’s one thing for sure, l have never been banned from any forum. I would hate that!

Nail on head for Rehab in my book
I read 'flouncing' as a kind of 'attention flirting' for the internet generation.

Nnnnaaahhh Dave.
That didn't work with me.
I tried that and I didn't get one begging PM letter.
Everything fell silent bar a few 'if your gonna go as fast as you can' type comments.
So I left.
After a few months I begged alright.
Begged to come back!

But that very same forum owner did the same with me when I flounced.
This means if he wants us both back, then he will have two butts to kiss!

But.
I will offer you the moon and stars if only you will stay right here with me Lee.

Remember, of course I do remember....was like a forum explosion. Such fun, such drama that flounce

Boozer of course, I'm sticking here. When we flounce, we stay flounced

Have you ever flounced? Was it a cry for attention or were you serious about quitting?
I don't flounce, I don't see the point.

I also don't see the point in getting so wound up on a forum that flouncing/leaving becomes an option.

It's the internet, it's not real. You have the option of an off button, use it!

I quite regularly take internet breaks as sometimes it starts to get on my nerves and I find myself becoming too invested in some things.

But I don't make a fuss about it, I just do it.

As for those that have had admin "beg" them to stay....that, to me, is a really bad move on admins part. No one person is bigger or more important than the forum and nobody should be made to feel they are.

A PM to say ....sorry you feel like this, the door is always open for you to return....would be sufficient.

And now I'm logging off to watch telly, but it ain't a flounce

Re: Flouncing - What’s it all about

Not on this forum but somewhere else.

I did not flounce. Did not threaten with going.

I just replied to the post that caused me to want to leave. Did not personally attack poster but made my feelings clear to someone who up till that post I had greatly respected.
And left. Never went back ever.

Its a pity as there were some nice people on there.

But I'm glad I'm here.
