Children cleaning Schools

Hi

Education in Japan, Taiwan and Singapore is very different to here in the UK.

Children start off by learning social skills and personal responsibility and this continues throughout their education.

They clean the school every day from day one and serve lunches from the age of 8.

It does not affect their learning ability, in fact they come out of school much better educated than here in the UK.

I think it is a very good system which teaches them personal skills and cleanliness.

The streets and public areas are immaculately clean and it saves a fortune on litter cleaning.

A short video of how it works.

Same here Doc and I can remember beating the chalk duster against the wall to clean it and filling the inkwells.

We also had to clean the classroom , end of the day in primary, end of the lesson in secondary. Tables wiped, chairs on top, everything lifted off the floors, paints and crayons and pens etc all put back where they belonged

Think the cleaners only done the floors and walls up to cill high

Children have more than enough to do with the amount of homework they are given. It is the job of the school cleaners to keep a school clean and tidy.

Might make some of them respect the school better, having cleaned schools in my lifetime the worst filthiest place is always in my experience the teachers lounge. Get them doing a bit of the cleaning too I suggest.

Nothing wrong with them wiping down a table, when I cleaned schools we weren't supposed to do the tables we were employed for the floors and walls. Some of us did tables in our breaks because we couldn't stand leaving a room looking dirty.

And no we weren't employed to keep anything tidy that was the teachers job to arrange.

I always recommend kids learn to clean, it dies them no harm at all to realise things need cleaning and it's not beneath them to do it.

Things were much more disciplined and regimented at school in those days and all the better for it I think. For example we always had to stand when an adult entered the room which helped to teach respect for authority, something which is sadly lacking these days...

I think it disturbs a class if children have to stand when an adult enters it. I am glad things are more relaxed in that way today.

That to me smacks of poor teaching in schools. if the teachers got their subject over to the children properly to understand then there is no need for much homework.

Like everything nowadays standards have slipped so far they are impossible to get back
