Driving licence renewal...

My wife will be 70 by the end of March, so will now need to renew her licence every 3 years...
Yesterday the application was returned in the post, simply because our neighbour, who kindly offered to sign to confirm the photo was a 'likeness', had put 'retired' where it stated profession...Apparently he should have also stated his profession prior to his retirement!
He has given his name, address, postcode and his driving licence number, however that is not enough!
In the enclosed letter, it states that "this person is not a suitable person to verify the photo....."

'Form filling' has become a nightmare...

That seems a bit over the top malc
How did they know he wasn't suitable if he hadn't put his former profession on the form???

Hi Rhian,
I also thought that statement was out of order... I think that that without that info, they weren't able to fully verify that he was suitable.

Maybe it was an oversight on our side, where we may have missed fully reading the 'notes' included to advise on the form filling...

It comes to something when you need a booklet to fill a form in. Passport ones are like that too.
The instructions on how to take your picture are a minefield!

But necessary, imo.

Hi realspeed,
Yes, There are changes to the basic driving licence that can catch you out, if you're not careful, especially if you apply 'on line', rather than posting your application.
A friend of mine, who also turns 70 soon, started his application on line and just as he was ready to complete, a message came on screen to say that his (new) licence wouldn't allow him to tow ( and probably the 15 seater situation,)...
Because he has a touring caravan which he uses regularly, he cancelled the on line application and used the postal service instead.

Re: Driving licence renewal...

If you have a valid passport you can link your online application so they don't need a photo, they take it from the passport agency.

Some things are made so much easier whilst others much harder....doesn't make sense sometimes.

Re: Driving licence renewal...

When we renew our driving licence we don’t need anyone to sign the likeness as you send the old photo card in with the paperwork and money

Personally, I can't see where your problem is - he/she would have had to give profession if still working so what is the issue with having to state "retired teacher/lawyer or whatever" ?
