It's a comforting thought, but doesn't help us with our debt.

Many people don't like to compare but if a household's income is significantly less that its outgoings for years on end, most people would come to the conclusion that spending must be reduced.

If stringent spending cutbacks have been made and there is still a significant deficit at the end of every month, the advisability of contributing generous, regular sums to "suspect" foreign countries' charities, would have to be seriously questioned.

Just saying, well, we are earning good money, so we can easily afford it, and let's spend more on other things as well, the money is coming in, isn't a sensible way the deal with the problem.
