Re: The dark web

Matthew Falder boasted that he would never be caught, his arrest and conviction shows that authorities are able to track down and identify abusers.

It's possible to go "Under Cover" so that you can look like a user.

If the Cops really needed to they could probably get a log in.

Assuming the right connections...!

Re: The dark web

it's just a different way to use code on the internet. I'm sure much of it is used by the techno savvy who don't want to be lumbered with the interfaces we use. However, because it's outside these interfaces it's also outside the control and scrutiny that we are under. So I'm sure as someone said the scientific and tech community use it because they know how. It wasn't on anyone's radar until they suddenly realised the internet was a big risk.

Re: The dark web

One often hears about "The Dark Web", From what I have gleaned, it is a haven for getting ANYTHING you want! from Paedophiles swapping information to being able to buy drugs aplenty at the press of a button. Some say that Terrorists use it too as it is such a safe place to liaise with each other without fear of discovery.
A truly frightening place from what I have learned. There should be no such place in existence on the web.

Re: The dark web

Mind you, now we have said all this, maybe it is also a very useful place for police investigators. At least they could get a whole load of 'baddies' in one go, as they'd know where to look for these people.

If these 'baddies' disbanded and spread themselves about, might they be harder to track down?

Re: The dark web

Hi

As others have said it is simply that part of the Internet that cannot be found via a Search Engine.

Some of it is encrypted and used for illegal purposes.

A lot of it as has also been said is not encrypted and is used for the transfer of data by scientists big companies and government.

You simply have to know the URL, or cannot be found by a search.

The dark web is different to TOR, which is used so that the user cannot be traced.
Some use Tour and the darknet for illegal purposes and they are the ones GCHQ are interested in.

It is not all bad.
