Shoes on or shoes off?

When visitors enter your house do you ask them to remove their shoes?

Or do you consider this to be incredibly naff?

Good manners or too Footballers Wives for you?

There's a mat to wipe their feet, that's enough for me.

We prefer people to remove their shoes, especially if the weather is inclement. I would always remove my shoes if visiting anyone else, I think it is the polite thing to do.

Re: Shoes on or shoes off?

I find most people will remove their shoes....of course the odd one does not but I do not say anything. The exception is a woman wearing spike heels which can leave indents in some floor finishes. Then I ask.

However if I go to their home after that I do make a point of removing my shoes hoping they get the hint.

Our carpets are hard wearing and we've had dogs and kids and all sorts of workmen in and out, so no I don't get precious about shoes, in fact we rarely remove our own unless they are really muddy.

I will if the weather is bad. But if dry a quick look underneath to make sure I’ve trod in nothing nasty will suffice. There are exceptions of course. I’m a bit wary of walking on polished wood floors in socks. I will if asked without question.

Friends and Family always remove their shoes in our House, which I like, we also remove our shoes if we go and visit. If a stranger comes to the House, like a builder, Electric man etc. I will only ask them to remove their shoes if its muddy and raining outside, if not we do have mats down.
