Re: Paint

I'm not in the UK but from experience I will never go to a hardware store again to buy paint. I will only buy paint from a specialist supply One that tradesmen buy from.

B&Q can mix the colour you want in-store. I took a facecloth for my colour match and they did it exact.
It claimed one coat is enough and it did look enough but I did two anyway.
It's scrubbable rather than just washable too and wipes down lovely.
I agree Mort. I'm glad this question came up because I have been very impressed with Valspar recently and was just dying to recommend it. Valspar is available at B&Q.

I remember Valspar from years ago and it was cr@p, basically, but they seem to have made huge improvements.

As an example, I wanted to paint my shed door in a nice jade green so I bought a tester pot of exterior satin finish.
I undercoated it then gave it two top coats. Because I have been working in the garden, it got a bit dirty so I gave it another two coats. That's four coats from a test pot and I still have some left.

I also bought a 5Lt Valspar masonry paint for a wall approx. 20sq mts I gave it 2 coats and only used a third of the tin. Coverage was excellent.

The only downside is that it becomes separated in the tin so needs a really good stir.

I haven't used their interior paint but I would definitely try it in future.

Other good makes for interior walls are Habitat & Farell & Ball

I like the idea of scrubbable I've got a very narrow 22ft hallway it's impossible not to rub against it with bags and the like so it gets marked a lot.

I agree about Valpspar. Leyland and Johnston are very good as well and Leyland in particular do their own very good copies of Farrow & Ball colours.

Re: Paint

I want to redecorate and update my lounge at some point. At the moment I have soft stone on three walls, and a mocha on one. With beige curtain, as you can imagine, the room has a dark feel to it!! But at the time it's what I liked and wanted.

So when I come to redecorate, eventually, I will also need suggestions on what to use to cover up these colours. I think for the mocha I will need to do what I've never wanted, and that is apply plain wall paper. ATM, no wallpaper has been put up in this flat, because of the problems removing at a later date, but I remember having to apply so many coats of white and blue in the bedroom to cover up the dark blue colour in there!

And then...I don't know what colour I will want to go for. The theme for bedroom, bathroom and hallway is blue, and grey. With black accessories. Do I follow that theme through the whole flat? Hmmm. And then there's the kitchen, currently with lilac walls.

Oh dear...decisions.

(I was hoping to use nephew in law for the works but he has just finished training up as a bus driver, so expect he would be unavailable.)

Re: Paint
