Wouldn't bother me, but I thought they were still in use.

Ssh ... don't tell Nato ..or they'll tow them all to Russia under the guise of military manoeuvres and war games and park them near Chernobyl.

Doesn't the Red Rock Fault run through them?

Or the French side of the Channel Tunnel before it gets filled in.

My qualifications in safe nuclear-waste disposal are pretty meagre.
But with respect, JBR, I suspect you might be underestimating the technical challenges.

We can visit a pile of web-sites about this.
Those from the nuclear industry tend to minimize the problems.
Way-out greenies will paint pictures of inevitable doom and gloom.

Common ground seems to exist that even in the most ideal conditions imaginable, a half-life of at least 200,000 years is a minimum. Some types of waste - many times that.

Simply chucking the stuff down a 'mine shaft' when you consider all the geological and other possible events which could occur in that time span ........ ?
Apparently, billions of dollars in preparation alone needs to be spent -
and then, scour the planet for a place least likely to experience change.
And then, convince the 'locals' to approve it.
