Mental health problems

My sister as I've written before is a hoarder, I'm no longer taking responsibility for her hoard, but I feel no one seems to be helping her mental problems. So I've been looking around trying to get someone to take her seriously.

Is it me or are we at a point that mental health provision in this country is virtually none existent ?

All I've been offered is self referral to cbt services.

She's an alcohol, takes drugs and hoards I don't think cbt will touch her problems.

Feel so sorry for her we both had same upbringing both had same abuse as small children but I seem to have come through it so much easier than she has. I wish as oldest I could have protected her but I was busy trying to save myself at the time.

I know NHS is in trouble but hearing a friend is going in for fertility treatment I just wonder if we are actually prioritising well ?

Re: Mental health problems

its the myth that is care in the community...

The community doesn't care (on the whole) or they are too busy trying to keep their own heads above water.
The problem is if you dont get into the system you vanish and they assume you don''t need help, it might be an idea to try the CBT and try to use it as a springboard to get you into other services.

Re: Mental health problems

Thank you that didn't occur to me. So if I get her into cbt it might be a gateway to other services. I'll give that a go.

Re: Mental health problems

It's quite scary what we've lost, I live very close to a huge asylum, they closed if and turned if into flats when card in the community came in. Having seen the poor people wandering around in their slippers I think it was a dreadful decision. Ok asylum wasn't great but it was home to many who had been there for 30 years or more. They don't cope outside that system.

Re: Mental health problems

My brother was admitted to what used to be called springfield mental hospital in London.
He was admitted after being picked up by police who worried about his MH, he was depressed and suicidal but after 3 days doctors released him into the 'care of the community' because they thought he could be cared for under the eye of his GP..

Of course he never went to his GP, the hospital never checked and the GP never contacted him and a few months later he was dead.

I'm really sorry you've lost him cass.

Too many are slipping through the net because they can't themselves get the help they need.

Sometimes I really wonder about how some folks think and I shudder.
