HiMay has triggered the 2 year period.
We can only get an extension if the European Council unanimously agrees.
Donald Tusk is President of the European Council, the members being the Heads of State of the 27 remaining EU Members.
Some, for example Malta, have already said they have no intention of agreeing any extension.
Others do very little trade with the UK at all.
If we want an extension, they will extract a heavy price.

The rules are absolutely clear.
If May did not think that we could not be ready within two years she should not have triggered the process.
We have 21 months and counting down now.
The EU have got everything in place ready for the talks, a huge team of civil servants and have drafted in specialist lawyers etc from the other EU Countries.
May's strategy is now in tatters, she is reliant on the DUP, who are adamant there is no Border in Ireland.
May has now got 9 days to get a new strategy in place before talks begin.
The final deal needs to get approved by the UK Parliament, having messed up the Election, she no longer has the majority needed to force it through.
Labour wants single market access, which means unlimited EU Immigration and complying with EU Rules, so do the Lib Dems and the SNP.
If May wants to stop EU Immigration, which she has promised, it means another Election and winning it with a good majority.
What will be will be.
The other alternative is to withdraw the Article 50 letter and start the process again at some date in the future.
Doing that will cause riots.

Can the application to leave be withdrawn? Is that allowed under EU rules?
Supposing that either there is no agreement at the end of two years or the British parliament rejects any agreement where is Britain then? can the EU apply sanctions? is Britain just out and on its own?

I have a feeling May will throw in the towel within the next few weeks/months as I really feel She's just not up to the job,and She knows it....There will be another GE which Labour will win,like it or lump it,,that's how I see things panning out,Ps...I'm neither a Labour or Tory supporter.
