Re: GP appointments

And they wonder why so many simply turn up at Casualty these days!

Sitting and waiting for four hours or more must be better than waiting for days or weeks.

Re: GP appointments

In this case Mups its down to the NHS deciding to organise this themselves using a single outfit based in the South to co-ordinate these appointments.

I used to phone my optician and would be seen in a couple of days, they are not included in the scheme and now i have to travel miles to be seen.

Re: GP appointments

That new scheme our surgery has seems to work so far.
I got an MRI scan within a few weeks!
My GP did say it was one of only a few types of scans they're allowed to book now though.

Re: GP appointments

Hi

The simple fact is that we are not paying enough into the NHS, or for our Pensions, or for Benefits.

Germany has a much better system and service than we do.

They pay far more for it than we do.

Insurance policy Yearly ceiling Employer % Employee %
Pension Insurance West: 72,600.00 €/ East: 62,400.00 € 9.35% 9.35%
Unemployment Insurance West: 72,600.00 €/ East: 62,400.00 € 1.5% 1.5%
Nursing Insurance 49,500.00 € 1.175% 1.175%-1.425%
Health Insurance 49,500.00 € 7.3% 7.3%
Additional employee contribution depending on health insurance company up to 0.9%

I used to have routine diabetic retinal photographs every year on the dot. These were done by a local optician under the NHS, and as far as I know this is standard practice for all diabetics.

At the moment, though, I am being seen every six months at the Manchester Royal Eye Hospital for other matters, but I expect to return to annual checks when the current problems are resolved.

Re: GP appointments

Diabetic eye test once a year, but a letter from Southampton hospital department gives me venue (village hall), date and time.

Our surgery last year "imported" near 1000 patients from a local practice due to retirement. One GP short due to the head girl retiring so locum and some part-timers make up the shortfall. Matron (part qualified doctor) was new last year and specialist diabetes nurse keep things rolling along. The old dragon practice manager retired last year, and the new girl is a breath of fresh air.

Well organised teamwork make this the best practice I have used for more than twenty years. And they whisper that the Isle of Wight is a backwater.......

Re: GP appointments

We can usually get an appointment on the day at our surgery, we may have to ring/call in again after 1pm for an afternoon appointment if they are fully booked in the morning. To see a specific Dr may take a while, it can be weeks to see my own named Dr,she is very popular and only there 4 mornings a week.Trouble is most of the established Drs there seem to have left and there are new unknown ones coming in,some only stay a short time,I think they are gaining experience before moving on
