Other European countries are also extending their retirement ages too.

Bloody ridiculous - why not reduce it and get more unemployed people in to work?

Re: Pension Age to rise again sooner

Well apparently it's not the demographics but down to the lack of growth of pension funds for years now. There is not enough money but there should be because there are enough young people to provide for the old.

There is no pension fund as such it is funded by working people paying in .
A sort of ponsi system
Private pension funds rely on the growth and returns of the stock market .
How can a country continue to grow indefinitely?

That is how it used to be .
Neither of my grandfathers made it anywhere near pension age Nor did my husbands .
So many people never claimed a pension .
No wonder people live much longer and may be 30 years retired .

What ticks me off about it all is when they say we can't ask the young to pay for us or leave debts to them. Why I say, we paid for our parents and grandparents pensions and many I'm guessing paid debts for them. Now its our turn its suddenly too much to ask anyone for us.

Re: Pension Age to rise again sooner

We are living too long and there are too many of us .
The system works on a pyramid system .
It needs a wide base of workers at its base.
But there are less jobs and more people competing for them .
They can't get them so are on benefits instead of contributing to pensions .
Immigration far from helping has exascerbated the problem .
And they too get old -they don't go home they stay in the uk and need to supported too.

Loving too long never a problem

But I think making people work longer is adding to the problems as we keep the young out of the workforce by doing it.

If anything many need to retire younger to make way for them.

If someone isn't brave enough to buck the system soon it will be work until dead and no one trained to work coming up behind us to do the jobs still needed.

Re: Pension Age to rise again sooner

I just saw my typo !

I absolutely agree .
Why make tired old people work when there are frustrated young people out there who need jobs ?
Surely it the same to pay pensions for oldies as to pay unemployment benefits for youngsters
