Re: national referendum on law to enshrine British way of life

Watching the perception of a country you were born into, at a certain moment in time, change, beyond recognition, is, a bit like watching a childhood family home, change hands to new owners on a new journey.
You can't legislate against this, you can just write songs about it

Golden slumbers kiss your eyes,
Smiles awake you when you rise;
Sleep, pretty wantons, do not cry,
And I will sing a lullaby,
Rock them, rock them, lullaby.

Care is heavy, therefore sleep you,
You are care, and care must keep you;
Sleep, pretty wantons, do not cry,
And I will sing a lullaby,
Rock them, rock them, lullaby.

Since I'm a republican and would happily see the destruction of the monarchy and the rest of the aristocracy, by definition I'm already a 'traitor' in many people's eyes - do I give a stuff?? - Nah - bring it on!!!

Easy answer for me. I would vote NO.
I think trying to define the British National character in Law is a fatuous idea.
We already have a "state religion" (I think!) The Church of England, with the Queen as Defender of the Faith?
Personally, I wouldn't be bothered if all religion lapsed into disuse, as other religious cultures have done over time - but religious faith is not something that should be legislated for or against - our own turbulent history is proof of this.
