Really I wouldn't want to test that theory. We do try not to wrap them in cotton wool but the world is very different to when we were children ourselves.

I would never talk to a small child unless first introduced. I even worry about fussing dogs outside a supermarket(though I do)because I`m thinking you trust me and what if were an evil sod?

I recall seeing young children wearing reins - a leash type thingy, not a bad idea maybe to bring back ........

Re: A Word of Warning.

They were popular when I was a child my Nan used them for my sisters, a strap around the chest, stopped them falling over too as she would scoop them up if they stumbled. Todays reins are a strap around the wrist which IMO are not so good, true child can't get away but it's like shackling them to the parent and both lose the use of one hand really.

Re: A Word of Warning.

My DIL bought braces for the twins . They do lovely ones these days with with back packs in the form of animals but it was so difficult to control them as the leads became tangled. She also had baby Hannah soon after the twins and carried her in a sling making it even more difficult to sort out the braces.

I bought braces for when I had any of the little ones singly but found they fell over a lot and a hand was better because you could scoop them up when you felt them 'going' .

Re: A Word of Warning.

It's very easy to become paranoid and the tabloid press doesn't help.
A couple of weeks ago I was on the bus at the end of the primary school day, and it was nice to see young children walking home unaccompanied, just as I did many many years ago.

I don't think it's paranoia though when something is clearly happening. It shouldn't stop normal life obviously but there are and always have been people out there willing to harm children and we have such a system now they can easily get away so we have to be on alert more IMO

Re: A Word of Warning.

Two my grandsons 12 and 10 are experiencing the sort of childhood I had where not being wrapped up in cotton wool is concerned, and all the better for it. They are expected to take responsibility for their own actions and be sensible.

Referring to younger children though, cant see a 12 year old on reins
