Knitting yarn and needles ?

Every time we hear or see Jordan he asks for knitting yarns or knitting needles, I know he knits but I was puzzled how he could be getting through so much, well last nights call enlightened us, he has been teaching all the men in his barrack to knit. It began with just him knitting and the others sniggering, bit of banter and week or too later one chap got curious and had a go and now they are all doing it

Most too embarrassed to ask their home friends and families to provide the wool and needles I guess.

That is lovely Julie! It left me wondering if they are knitting squares, to sew together and make blankets for the needy.

Well good for them!

I was wondering what they're knitting too...Possibly squares or a long scarf.

PS - Lots of wool & needles on Amazon to save their embarrassment.

They started on squares but apparently are working on afghans now and rugs. Sounds like they are quite industrious in their spare time.

Great story. Would be great to see a photo of that.
I have been thinking of doing some knitting lately but
haven't started yet. I have seen some cheap wool at
Aldi and thought all I need now are some knitting needles.
So you never know.

Re: Knitting yarn and needles ?

My father knitted himself some long woollen socks when he was serving in the R.E.M.E. during the 2nd world war. Over the years my mother had darned the heels and soles of the these socks but they were still wearable. When dad was in hospital when he was 50 he unpicked the soles from the main leg of the socks and knitted new feet into them. Unfortunately he never got to wear them again as he passed away with lung cancer shortly afterwards.

Re: Knitting yarn and needles ?

There are a couple of men around here who knit. One man lives next door to a friend and he has knitted her blankets, jumpers and ponchos. The other man we know who knits, knits dog jumpers for local rescue centres.

What a great idea.
My son in law is in the RAF and over the years my daughter hasn't had to do any sewing, he does it all. He even borrowed my sewing machine about six months ago, must admit it did look funny seeing him using it.
