Plastic banknotes.

We received our first plastic £5 note today. Slightly smaller than the paper one and featuring a picture of the Forth Bridge and a portrait of Sir William Arrol, the engineer whose company was responsible for its construction.

I expect they'll soon become more common.

Re: Plastic banknotes.

I'd heard about them Grumble, but didn't know they were in circulation yet. Do you think they're going to be OK?

Re: Plastic banknotes.

They've been using them in Australia for some years now. To be honest, they didn't seem much different to paper ones to us, as the plastic is very thin.

Hope they are easily destroyed when they are finished with one thing about paper is it is easily burned, Plastic sounds a bit more polluting.

Re: Plastic banknotes.

They will never produce rubber bank notes as they will bounce at a bank

Be very careful about reproducing bank notes in any shape or form. This is for bank of England but suspect it is the same for Scotland

link

http://www.bankofengland.co.uk/bankn...banknotes.aspx

and RBS (in part)

All negative plates, digitised storage media, graphic files, optical storage devices and any other storage
medium used in the making of the reproduction or that contain an image of the reproduction must be
destroyed or deleted after their final use.
The above guidelines may in part be waived for:
• Photographs, drawings, paintings, films and other types of image which do not provide a close-up view
of the banknote designs and in which the focus is not the banknote.
• Flat-to-camera reproductions in contexts for which overprinting with the word SPECIMEN is deemed
unnecessary by the Bank.
• Reproductions of historic banknotes.
