Pet insurance

Any recommendations on here please, for my new little darling?

Who have you been happy with? Who has instilled confidence in you, when dealing with them? Who has hiked premiums, or kept them reasonable?

Thanks.

Re: Pet insurance

I used to use M&S, who used to offer the same protection as Pet Plan a hell of a lot cheaper ( under written by AXA). However I think their policies have changed dramatically

Pet Plan is the gold standard. It's expensive but they pay out and don't quibble

There's one out there, something with friends in the name, that's cheap, but refuse to pay out

Re: Pet insurance

A couple of suggestions Jazzi.

1. Talk to your vet.
They're the ones who have to deal with the insurance companies, and fill in all the paperwork, and they know who coughs up and who doesn't - well my vet does anyway. I found Pet Plan pretty good with my Gertie and her heart murmur, and they paid me back for the specialist cardiologist scans within a week, minus the excess of course. As others have said, they are dear though.

2. There is this chap, Neil Flint, who writes for my dog magazine.
He is a "trusted pet insurance advisor for pet owners across the UK, offering fee-free advice on almost all aspects of pet insurance."
If you can get yourself a copy of "Dogs Today" magazine when you go shopping, (it's a monthly mag), you can read his advice pages yourself and see what you think of him.
I think he seems really good, and explains details very carefully for people.

His website is: www.vip4u.co.uk

Email is: enquiries@vip4u.co.uk

His phone number for advice is: 0345 601 8575

Re: Pet insurance

I only bought pet insurance for the first year I had my rescue dog. I've saved the money I would have spent on insurance in an account and thankfully she has been healthy and never had any health issues. She's almost twelve years old now.

Re: Pet insurance

It is a minefield, insurance, isn't it? You can spend years paying out on premiums, and never claim. I have insurance for the satellite dish cable (£118/year), car, breakdown and recovery, home contents, and travel.

How many times have I claimed? Well, for the past so many years...none. What is the likelihood of me claiming, if I cancel one of them? High, I would think.

As vets don't come cheap, I think I'd prefer to have some cover in place.

Yes, it's a good one Jazzi. I have had it on subscription for years, and there is a lot of imformationin there. There are a lot of very similar ones, but I like that one best.
As you say, insurances are a bit of a minefield.

You should get a month's free puppy insurance from the breeder to start you off, so that buys you a bit more time.
Good luck gal.

Re: Pet insurance

We insured for donkeys years only to find when we tried to get a bill paid they made excuses, changed to another one and they did the same but for more money. So we keep an empty credit card and pay back to ourselves if anything happens, if we pay £60 for each dog a month in insurance we can pay back any credit card bill pretty fast.
