Re: The New Austin Brexit

According to news reports Dyson has sour grapes with the EU as he lost an acrimonious court case challenging energy ratings two years ago. It would not hurt his personal fortune if we crashed out. Most of his market is overseas so if uk consumers can't afford the products because our economy goes belly up he's still quids in. He owns more land than the queen and was strongly in support of the single currency. But that if course was before his expansion to Asia.

Lower standards would work against his business.

I think you need to work out what it is you really believe in.
You are knocking and undermining the innovators, entrepreneurs and wealth creators in favour of a bloated, self serving, elitist, expensive political experiment that is going to consume every nation in Europe and sow discord and conflict (already happening, in fact).

Julie S claimed recently that you are an intelligent contributor. I don't see any original thinking in your posts . You just spew the same old liberal negativity and fear mongering. You need to up your game, Annie S!

Well said .
James Dyson has done a tremendous amount of good for this country.
His factory gave employment to a part of the country rural wiltshire that previously offered little He treated his workers well and sent his own works bus to go around the villages picking up people who had no transport and had no access to public transport .
His factory now concentrates on research and he has recently purchased an old airport which he intended to make in to an engineering university.
He offers generous sponsorships to encourage bright young engineers .
This is the sort of man who is good for the UK .

That says everything you need to know.
Dyson really didn't get much encouragement to manufacture here any more .
The government should IMO have given Dyson more incentives to keep his manufacturing plant in the UK .He was and is a major employer in this part of the world .

the idea being that lower production costs in Malaysia etc can result in higher investment in R&D here. He would like visa rules for engineers from around the world who study here to be relaxed as we don't have enough skilled engineering graduates here.

But all that doesn't matter of course because he is backing Brexit.

He's certainly a British success story and at least unlike some he pays his due taxes in the UK. We could do with more innovators like this, but perhaps they could manufacture in the UK, although at present we are far more expensive than Asia. Maybe when the pound goes the way of the Turkish lira we will be able to compete...

The government should have given this man a break so his production. factory ( it's now a research centre )would have stayed here and 500 people would not have had to seek new employment .

Re: The New Austin Brexit

I thought the move to Asia was purely to save costs so what could the government have done to stop it? it was a strategic move and he is an extremely shrewd businessman that's why he has amassed such a fortune and so much land.

At least R&D is based here. It would be interesting to know how many of the R&D employees are born in the UK.

This is actually a really interesting case study for how we discourage innovation here in the UK. When he came up with his prototype his old British employer gave him a bit of a break but he had to go to Japan to get a licence. Then it was a US company based here that first manufactured his vacuum cleaners.

You think you know James Dyson and what makes him tick based on a few hurried and furtive google searches?

Deluded!

Actually he's my hero. He wanted the Euro Currency in the UK and look what happened to that. Now he supports Brexit. So all my hopes are pinned on him!
