The casting couch

Seem to be a few movie buffs at over50sforum...

Could a wise owl please explain why motion picture and television casting directors are 95% female.

Baffling.

Why are men not interested in the job.

Job requirements seem straightforward enough: //

Arranging and conducting interviews and auditions with artists.
Negotiating fees and contracts for the actors who get the part.
Working with the Director and Producer to understand their requirements.

Pre-production, work with both the director and producer to assemble the perfect cast for the film.

In-depth and up-to-date knowledge of new and existing acting talent.
//

Seems like a fun job. Baffling.

Re: The casting couch

Is this why we seem to have a lot of old women in main roles lately?
I think women look at the interaction between people and the relationship angle of the films more than men probably do.
Men may prefer the "action" rather than the preparation of casts and settings too.

I could be wrong...

Re: The casting couch

Fascinating. Thank you.

The link to 1989 Chicago Tribune points to its origin in 1950s Madison Avenue.

Definitely not a job I could have achieved. So much hustling.
