Sir Alex has emergency surgery

Just been announced that Sir Alex is in hospital, he's had a brain haemorrage.

I am not a great football fan but am sad to hear the news about Sir Alex .
It sounds as though they caught the problem quickly, I hope he recovers well.

I always wanted him to lose when Utd were playing Liverpool, but this is one battle i think we all want him to win.

I hope he has a speedy recovery. He achieved legend status up here in Aberdeen as well. It was his domestic and European success with Aberdeen that brought him to the attention of Man U.

I see Alex Ferguson is in the same hospital as my husband was treated in 2006 when he had his brain haemorrhage. My husband was 59 at the time, considerably younger than Ferguson who is now in his 70s. We weren't told that the surgery to save my husband's life would cause even more brain damage than he had already sustained from the haemorrhage. I hope things have moved on in the last few years, and Ferguson won't be left with only half a functioning brain like my husband.

Newspaper reports say Sir Alex is now conscious and talking to his family.
