I go along with the theory that dreams serve a useful function and may be part of the brains sorting system helping us to store or discard our daily thoughts and happenings. The scary ones could also be a kind of rehearsal to hone our fight or flight response.

One of the medications I take often causes strange dreams , mine haven't been too bad so far I suspect partly due to a long and brisk late night walk which makes me feel healthily tired

I'm no expert but I do try to work out what they mean, particularly the vivid ones that stay with you all day.

I'm not sure I do really tbh. I do have a couple of books on the subject and obviously Google but different people interpret things differently so you are never really sure.

Are you trying to work out a particular dream? There might be some on here that can help.

Re: Dreams and do you understand what they mean to you?

Dreams often send important messages from the subconscious. Things we miss in the day surface at night. But it is in code so not easy to decipher. It's worth trying with repetitive dreams. They also serve to commit what's happened in the day to long term memory.

My repeat one is when I'm on holiday and trying to pack a case and I think I'm packed the case is full and then I find I've missed a whole load of stuff and the plane's taking off soon and I can't find my passport or money. It's a sure sign I have too much on my plate when I have that. The other one is going into an exam without revising.

I used to have one about my dad being alive and me arguing with myself how that's impossible because he had died. It was part of grieving but went on for years.

Re: Dreams and do you understand what they mean to you?

Some of my dreams are feelings or events of the previous day that I haven't sorted through, just noted and tucked away in my mind for later. When I awaken from a dream, I can connect the pieces/people and reactions to make some sense of the dream. It helps me see my trigger points.

As an aside, I didn't dream for 8 years after my divorce, I think because I was analyzing everything anyone said to me. A shutdown at night, perhaps.

I enjoy my dreams, always have, and am glad to have them back with me.

The trouble with dreams is that the characters can suddenly become someone else which is confusing.

What I have always found fascinating about a dream is that within that ream, you can have vivid memories of something that has not actually happened.

I think I was upset that someone (a man I think but cant see anyone in the room) had got the room ready without asking me and I felt controlled so said I am divorcing you and yet I wasn't married to him but guess it was some man I didn't marry thank goodness as he was evil
