Re: Bowel cancer screening

The NHS Bowel Cancer Screening Programme
offers screening every two years
to all men and women aged 60 to 69.

If you fall within this age group
and have not yet received a test kit.?

I would recommend that you call
the freephone number. 0800 707 6060
.
People over 70 can request a screening kit
by calling the freephone helpline
0800 707 6060
.

Re: Bowel cancer screening

Well Michael I was offered it for the first time at 74, but anybody over that age can request a kit for testing.

Re: Bowel cancer screening

I guess you were one of the few who missed out.

The invitations are computer generated but they have to to have accurate and up to date info keyed into their systems.

It is a very simple test and an early diagnosis could make all the difference.

I hope you had a negative result.

Re: Bowel cancer screening

Hi Mags and Meg, when I got my first test when I was 60 it said on the letter I received with it that it was a 2 yearly thing until I was 70 then as mentioned you can request the test after that age.
With the increase of the initial take up of the test I would presume
you will still be somewhere on their lists. I should get my next test to
do in about April so will let you know if I do get it which will make my
third one in the last 6 years. Ooopppss you now know how old I am

Re: Bowel cancer screening

I think these tests could be done earlier or made voluntary at a earlier age....A few years ago i suffered quite a scarey episode whilst on holiday from a burst hemorrhoid..no pain or discomfort just a a scarey site in the loo.....The first thing i done when i got back to the UK was to visit my clinic who sent me to see a specialist who found some growths which were removed in 2 ops fortunately at the end of the day they were benign but had the potential to turn cancerous, however after 6 months i was finally given the all clear .....I am glad they found them because if they hadn't i dont know what would have happened so i now ASK to be tested every year

Re: Bowel cancer screening

We have just received our third test. I dislike doing the test, not pleasant but I always do. Makes sense.
