Ladies, Would you?

Rural fire stations in parts of New South Wales are facing a growing struggle to survive as populations dwindle or move, but women could hold the solution.

Like the State Emergency Service, the Coast Guards and Life Savers the Rural Fire Service is largely a voluntary organisation which performs an essential public service.

Would you ladies volunteer to protect your community?

In a hear beat if I was strong enough, think when I was in my twenties I could have done it. Not so much lately

I certainly would if I had the energy and strength to do the job.

I would mind the fire fighting bit but firemen also have to attend RTA's and I couldn't cope with that ..

My arms have gone this year due to illness.
I would certainly help if I could. Saying that we do
have Neighbour Watch around here so I certainly help
that as its less energetic for my age.
Sounds like I had my arms cut off, its just the
muscles seem to have lost their strength

They don't here generally anyway - there is a Police Rescue Squad for that. This is the rural fire service (not the NSW Fire and Rescue which operates in urban areas and is a full time, paid service) they fight fires in the rural areas especially bush fires or they carry out controlled burns to reduce fuel load and are volunteers.

Having said that the nearest Rural Fire Station from me is only about a 2 or 3km away.
