I thought it strange at first that the Artful Dodger was cast as a black lad, but on reading up on it, it seems there were lots of African people in England at that time. In one article I read that Fagin was portrayed as a black man at first, but Dickens changed his character to a Jew.

Whilst on the subject, I have been recording ALL of these episodes with a view to copying them to DVDs for future viewing. (If anyone from a government spy agency is reading this, NO I HAVEN'T. I WAS ONLY JOKING.)
However, when I came to look it seems that, for some reason, I have deleted the first two episodes. So I now have over a dozen (I think) but excluding the first two.
DAMN!
Perhaps they'll repeat the series one day.

And I don't believe H was conscious enough to see the child. The only way Miss B could convince her sister the child was dead would be if she drugged her enough to keep her unconscious for a day or two.
