Oh I think they have more than enough. Why are really big guys afraid of dogs? Teef and the ability to go in to berserk wild mode are a terrifying combo that scares practically everyone, unless they have a suit of armour on or something.

I have never seen a dog go into berserk mode with no provocation, even the dog we have problems with that attacks seemingly at random is quite understandable when you look at how and where he is kept, and that we are in his territory as we are walking through communal gardens. All dogs have triggers, I think, they key is understanding them and not winding them up.

Dogs can go into 'berserk' mode - just as humans do.
Some dogs have a mental condition - just as humans do and wouldn't take much at all to set them off, with dogs - fear usually .....
When I say fear - usually from the victim !

Re: So many pets?

That is still provocation though, I have had a couple of nervous aggressive dogs and though they seem to got mad over nothing they were seeing provocations in things that set them off.

So, fearing a dog 'is' provocation for some ....

Yes for every action there is a reaction is how I look at it. I have never been scared of my own dogs so they have never bitten me, my husband however lost confidence with one and from that day on had to be very careful not to show his fear or Benny would have him (and did on a couple of occasions).

Yes but we're talking dogs that are not known to us, I remember hearing of cases of a woman coming out of a shop and being severly attacked, she may have feared the dog as she clapped eyes on 'im and nearly lost an arm... She was nervous crossing his path - that was all ....

Which is likely to be even worse for a fear aggressive dog. They can become scared because someone else is scared, also she came quickly into his territory too which is not something some dogs will tolerate.

It's the owners fault for allowing the dog to be in that position.

That's sounds awful, but without witnessing it I don't know what happened exactly. Sounds as if that dog was either badly under socialised, badly trained, or had severe mental problems, along with the wrong owner too. If I had a dog that was so unpredictable I wouldn't be taking him out in public unless he was muzzled and passed alot more training exams - for his sake and everyone else's.
A child would have been "face height" to him and it would have been very dangerous.
He doesn't sound our average much loved household pet, he sounds like a dog with big problems.
