Mythical Creature Becomes Fact?

Could the giant oarfish be the serpent-type sea creature often seen in drawings of long ago that would attack ships and gobble people up? It would seem it could be:

Eel-like in appearance, the creature (Regalecus glesne) is the world's longest bony fish.

It is only rarely seen by humans, and usually only as a bizarre, unwanted bycatch from commercial fishing.

Environmentalists on Monday unveiled unprecedented footage of a legendary sea creature, the giant oarfish, as they stepped up a campaign against bottom trawling.

Thats a pretty awesome fish, we had a Megamouth caught locally and it is in our museum that is a pretty ugly fish too. In reality though meeting up with a Great White would be a real fear and more likely!

You've seen a real one! Mind you, if I saw one, I'd want it to be in a museum as well!

It's easy to see where these 'myths' come from now isn't it - not such a mythical creature after all perhaps. I have heard it said that inside every myth there is a grain of truth.
