Re: Team GB

Team GB Women 1. Brazil Women 0.

Just watched this match from start to finish, what an advert for the game this was, absolutely superb.

A surprise goal from GB by the prolific Steph Houghton in the first two minutes set the Samba ladies back on their heels but they soon recovered to pose a threat whenever they attacked in numbers. Both teams had chances but resolute defending from both defences prevented any further score.

The second half predictably slowed on the wembley surface but was still lively enough to keep the large crowd entertained.
Kelly Smith had the chance to increase the GB lead but sadly missed with her penalty kick, from the look of her I would think tiredness was more the problem than the occasion.

In any event GB were much the better side for large periods and thoroughly deserved the win.
Everyone played their part magnificently but special mention should be given to Karen Carney, Steph Houghton and keeper Karen Bardsley.

Team GB now face Canada in their quarter final.

Well done and good luck to them.

Re: Team GB

Team GB seems to be one of the few teams doing worse than Australia at the moment, never mind at least we are beating New Zealand.

Re: Team GB

Thanks for that Bruce, I Enjoyed it, New Zealand for gold?

I also enjoyed the GB ladies victory over their Brazillian counterparts, great to watch and the perfect advert for women's football worldwide so now it's the turn of the men again as they take on Uruguay this evening at Cardiff's millennium stadium, let's go GB!

Re: Team GB

Much calmer waters here than those of the anti-olympic threads. Probably because only the diehards read the sports pages here so less chance of being involved in pointless point scoring.

Great news, we have won our first first gold medal of the Olympics.

Helen Glover and Heather Stanning decimated the opposition and came home first in the women's pair. Yes, first, not second , third or anywhere else.

Ahhh yes the olympic spirit at its very best, beat the ba****ds every way we can for it only happens rarely.

Seriously though, leading from the start they blew the others away and became the first British female rowers to win an Olympic title.

The final result.

1 Helen Glover, Heather Stanning :Team GB
2 Kate Hornsey, Sarah Tait :Australian Olympic Team
3 Juliette Haigh, Rebecca Scown :New Zealand

Brilliant girls, well done

Re: Team GB

Team GB 1. Uruguay 0.

More success for our team, a largely lacklustre game but we came away with the spoils thanks to a goal from Sturridge to win the group and proceed to the quarter finals.

Can we?, shhhhh too early yet but the flame of endeavour still burns bright within Mr Pearce and all the lads.

Oh yes another little event, local boy Wiggo won a........ gold was it?

Onward.

Re: Team GB

Well done Team GB, it is good to see gold medals even though it could cost us a fortune. lol

We signed up a couple of months back for the Gold Medal stamps from Royal mail which, based on Beijing it will cost us about £160. We have been buying First day cover and mini sheet for our son since he was 8 years old, this is a bonus for him along with other specials that we have bought.

Wiggins Gold was just what he needed to get him Knighted, not that I agree with it, Glover and Stanning could be made Dames as a precedent was set with Kelly Holmes.

Now with luck we could get a pan full of medals.

Re: Team GB

A reall feel good factor spreading around team GB, another Silver obtained in the rowing this morning and Rebecca Adlington has got through to the 800m final tomorrow plus of course the men's football team got through against a useful Uruguay side, only 1-0 but that was enough to end up as group winners and despite all the doubters, remained unbeaten, dare we start thinking about a medal yet? Wow! I swear that I even saw Stuart Pearce smile last night, bless him.
