Tpin
having not so long ago sold my business to another person, there are legal requirement regarding employees rights.

You will find it helpful to consult a solicitor who specialises with what you are going to do. it shook us believe me what rights employees actually have.

You need to have a look at this

Ok why seek legal advise? easy get it wrong and you could be sued for thousands of pounds.

In our case handing over a business and not following the correct proceedure by way of informing employees could have cost us up to £75,000 if take to ACAS or court per employee.

We had to follow T.U.P.E regulations which may not apply if closing down but what we learnt after spending 1.5 hours with a solictor was well worth the time and money

remember employees have more right than you think. you can't just say
"we are closing down and you have lost your jobs, tough luck"

Doing that will get you into deep legal trouble

Oh forgot you also have to keep your accounts for about 6 years after closure I think it is incase the inland revenue people want to check

Re: After months of soul searching I'm closing my business.

That's a real shame Tpin and I'm sure your regular customers will miss you as much as you will miss them. Another thing you will miss is the camaraderie between you and your employees/work mates.

On the positive side, I'm sure you will find it a big relief. A lot of people think that tradesmen work 8 till 4 but as I know from experience, your mind is working 24hrs and then there's all the paperwork to do.

Good luck mate for the future.

Sorry but I'm not gonna send you any hugs. Oh, ok, just a small manly one.

Hi

Terry, that is awful.

It is also a symptom of everything which is wrong with the UK.

The big boys screwing over the genuine small employers.

If there is anyway I can help you, I will.

You deserve it.
