Australian Flu Virus

Our neighbours three doors down, who have a holiday home here and who came over for Christmas and New Year with family have spent most of the time being ill with flu symtoms. When the little one went down with the illness too they took her to the Doctor. After a thorough check-up and a blood test, Flu was diagnosed. The Doctor said it was most likely the Australian strain, which is apparently hitting a lot of people. All the family had flu vaccinations in UK quite some time ago.

The family are now recovering, but the 18 year old grandson, who is a professional footballer, refused any treatment because of the regular drug testing he has to have.
The Doctor said she would give him a letter and a copy of the prescription, but he was too scared of what his club would say, so he declined.

So take care people, according to reports I have just been reading itīs already hitting UK. This family think they must have caught it on the flight over as the person in front of them was shivering, coughing and sneezing all the way over.

Re: Australian Flu Virus

Glad to hear the family are recovering Loretta
I understand the predominant flu strain this year is particularly severe.

Re: Australian Flu Virus

Thanks Meg. They are definitely feeling better than they did, but not looking forward to flying back to UK at 4 a.m. on Tuesday Morning.

I did mean to put this link, one of many, in my original post, but forgot.

Re: Australian Flu Virus

One thing I've found with flu vac is it may not stop all strains but people have it seem to get flu less severely. I hope everyone stays well.

Re: Australian Flu Virus

This is a worry because I know that Artangel picked up what she thought was a cold just before Christmas. By Boxing day she felt really ill so called her doctor, and when I spoke to her 2 days ago she sounded really bad...... so bad that she hasn't felt up to signing in on the forum and even answering the phone is something she can't be bothered to do!
Her doctor is treating her for a bad chest infection.... but I always worry that those symptoms can also be flu.

"Get well soon Art"... just in case she looks in.

Re: Australian Flu Virus

Sounds grim Twink.

I wonder if Tpin would pop round with his jar of Vick and make her a nice cuppa, and get some shopping?

Hope you feel much better soon, Art.
