A visit to Bangour Village Hospital

My son came in a few weeks ago and said "mum, you have to go and visit Bangour Village Hospital - it's fascinating". I'd never heard of it before. 25 miles from here. A huge mass of space with a shop, church, nurses home, villas where the patients lived. A bowling green. A former mental hospital, now derelict, but still upstanding. Takes a while to walk round it. Very atmospheric and apparently some of the buildings are haunted. We walked around, while eating berries from the bushes. What a fascinating day we had.

I would have found it fascinating too, I searched for old photographs online of our local mental hospital years ago, they shocked me for sure! Dark long corridors that stretched for miles, patients trundling along like zombies, it was dreary, sad too.
I remember when I was a teenager, some friends and I went to visit a girl who was a patient there, she wasn't mad, she'd had a baby at 15 and her parents put her there!

It sure dilapidated rapidly in 10 years.
Lots of history in those walls.
This part gave me the creeps:

"By the end of 1905, there were up to 200 patients in residence at the facility, and recently it was discovered that 566 patients had been buried in unmarked graves in nearby cemeteries."

Shivers. Lots of shivers!
