We went on a steam train trip to Newcastle behind Duchess Of Sutherland a few years back and we had the choice of spending about 3 hours in Newcastle or staying on the train while it went up to Morpeth to run round the loop. We opted to get off and went for a pint and a pie in a nearby pub. The other couple on our table stayed on the train and they told us the scenery was magnificent, best part of the trip.
