Which? verdict - Beko WTG841B1W £299.00

Great cleaning for the price - 65%

Pros - Cleans all fabric types very well, good spin dryer, reasonably priced

Cons - Takes too long, energy and water inefficient

What's it great at?

Getting stains out, whether on cotton or mixed fabrics, is its real strength. We found it not only left them clean, but also dryer than average thanks to a powerful spin-dry cycle. It's easy enough to use and does a good job rinsing, but it doesn't stand out in those areas quite as much.

Is there anything I should watch out for?

That comprehensive wash comes at a cost - the WTG841B1W takes a fair old while to complete a wash. We timed it at three hours and 22 minutes for cottons and two hours and 12 minutes for synthetics. Fortunately, there is a 28-minute quick-wash mode, but you can only load up 2kg for it.

Is there anything else I need to know?

Despite its A+++ energy rating, we found it scored poorly for both energy and water efficiency due to that prolonged program length - a longer wash means more energy used.

Should I buy it?

It's a good washing machine at a fair price. That's not an especially compelling argument to buy it, but then the WTG841B1W isn't an especially compelling washing machine.

Re: Beko washing machines.

I've had a full-size Beko Washing Machine for about 3 or 4 years now, and it's doing fine! It started making a strange noise some while ago which I decided was the drain pump, so I bought another from espares and fitted it............still working!

The Beko WTG741M1W at £249.00 gets 70% and is a Which Best Buy - it measures 84x59.7x53.8

Pros - Exceptional cleaning all-round, compact, cheap

Cons - Takes forever to complete a wash, noisy, inefficient

The Beko WTG741M1W is an outstanding cleaner, scoring top marks for both cotton and synthetic loads. It's also a good rinser and spin dries well. It's not flawless, though, as it takes far too long to do its job, which naturally results in poor water usage, too. But if you don't mind waiting around, this is a great-value Best Buy.

What is it?

On paper it's nothing special: a mid-sized 7kg drum (which holds 3kg of synthetics), a standard 1,400rpm top spin speed, 15 programs and a temperature choice of cold, 20, 30, 40, 60 or 90 degrees. It doesn't have an intensive wash program, but it does have a baby program and a 2kg quick wash that completes in under half an hour. You get a 12-month guarantee as standard and it's A+++ energy certified.

What's it great at?

Cleaning clothes, you'll be pleased to hear. Its performance with cottons is up there with some of the best we've seen, while it also gets full marks for synthetics. Once washed, it then does a fine job of rinsing off your clothes and spinning them dry, too. It's just great all-round.
