Not too good then Swims!

Why have they sealed both ears though, when you said the infection was in your right ear? Are they concerned it may spread?

Sounds nasty Swims .... and a very stubborn infection. Must be painful.
I was lucky with mine, after 6 months of trying to kill it off and finally succeeding, by which time I was deaf as a post, I went to hospital and they used a gadget to suck out my ears. Weird feeling, having your ears hoovered.
I kid you not I heard pops inside my head cavity and thought my brains were about to head for freedom .. it didn't hurt.
Cause: the remains of what they thought was a dead insect came out. (I think that was my brain and they were just trying to cover themselves).

Good luck.

Hi

The doctor said I had a small red patch in my other ear, so better do both.

The NHS have been pratting about with this for 5 months now.

This is the first Doc who seems to know what to do.

Morti is right, it is a weird feeling when they use the suction thing.

Re: Being temporarily Deaf

Hi

An update.

I have been to the specialist this morning.

I have malignant otitis externa, which is a nasty, very difficult to treat infection.

It is in my bone, so when it is brought under control, I will need an operation.

The infection has spread due to the delays in being referred and then getting an appointment, it took weeks.

I am not a happy womble.

I went my Gp, he didn't do it anymore. I went the hospital, they never did it I had to go the walk-in. And all the time i'm telling them what's wrong with sign language and writing notes. The walk-in centre said they only do ears if you have an appointment .......... ok, make me an appointment. "Oh we can't do that, you have to phone". And i'm trying to tell them, i can't hear, i can't use the phone.
It's a rigmarole, isn't it?

I needed my ears syringing so I eventually managed to make a booking at my local walk-in centre. Contrary to the name, you cannot just walk in!

The earliest they could see me was in several weeks, so I decided I'd do it myself.

I have a 60ml syringe which I 'came by' many years ago which was just the job. I use that regularly now.

My advice, though, is to make sure you use warm water, at or slightly above body temperature. Any cooler and you're likely to feel nauseous, at least that's my experience.

That's a real hassle and my feelings go out to you. Hopefully it'll get sorted out and you'll be in less discomfort soon.

I am very sorry to hear you are suffering with this Swim....
I have just gone through one of the worse months I have ever suffered through with complications with my eye operations. I haven't been able to see, along with many more uncomfortable things....so I can sympathize with you, with your ear infection.

Having something wrong with our ears and eyes is just terrible. I have spent half the month just "crying"...

My thoughts and prayers go out to you swim.

Re: Being temporarily Deaf

I have a hearing problem in my left ear due to scarring caused by undiagnosed ear infections as a child. My hearing in that ear has got worse as the years have gone by. Mind you it does have its compensations, I can't hear my husband's music if I am not in the same room where he has it on, or other noises I find unpleasant.
