what a fascinating product from Devon of all places - and known loving as a slice of Devon! In Western Australia we call it Polony NO not bolony - Polony - it's called a Fritz in S. Australia; Belgium in Vic ; tassie and Queensland; also as 'bung' in some parts of tassie ; it used to be called German sausage once in UK but - then the expression "don't mention the Germans" came into vogue

unfortunately it is regarded as a cheap meat product which i think is unfair to be honest?

In UK - luncheon meat and Polony are quite different.

Polony is delicious, sausage shaped and usually in a red skin.

Luncheon meat is not so nice, usually in slices - a bit like the dreaded Spam!

I haven't seen polony on sale for years do they still sell it ?

Actually I used to have a pal at school who had the nickname polony she was a bit round and small with tiny hands and feet......it was an all girls school and girls can be so cruel... she grew up and last I heard she was a bank manager ....a bit of useless info for you all there

Yuk Luncheon meat, we had that at Home when we were kids, horrible stuff.

We used to have luncheon meat sandwiches to take to school and I hated them so I used to take the ‘meat’ out and throw it in the waste bin and just eat the bread. Didn’t dare tell my Mum I did that though!

Yes - my local butcher sells it - think he makes it as well.

My Son-in-Law’s nickname used to be Spam when he first started work as he used to take spam sandwiches for his lunch everyday

When I first started work, my colleagues & I used to buy a tin of Spam between us and make toast sandwiches with it , with brown sauce of course!

I have to admit that I now, occasionally, buy a tin of Spam to make the same.... and I do still like it.
