Trifle sherry?

I have made trifle for many years, from my mum's recipe (who was English!) But I never did know what sherry was the best to use!
I am making it yet again this Christmas, and hubby told me to get my butt on here and ask what is the best sherry to use! (Because of the time difference, there is still time to get some!)
Maybe he's telling me I don't use the best?!
Suggestions!!

I used to pop round my nans as she was the only person I knew of who'd have any & she drank sweet sherry.. I've used a medium since which I prefer.

Yeah, I think I have used too sweet a sherry. We're not sherry drinkers at all, and I have always picked up the same sherry out of habit! So using a less sweet sherry is not sacrilege then?!!
I think now is the perfect time for a change!!

I love trifle, though I'm not generally very sweet-toothed

Hi Jax I don't think it really matters which Sherry you use. I use Bristol cream these days because I am not a sherry drinker and don't keep a large bottle in the house. It is possible to buy miniature bottles of this in the UK which serves the purpose well .

Oh cor! I can't believe I never thought of buying the miniature bottles before! Neither hubby nor myself are sherry drinkers either, so the miniatures will serve well! Thank you!!

"What about the duck?!" Col.
