Re: Investors Wanted

Hi All

I think that I have been totally misunderstood with my proposal.

I have not and never would expect anyone to part with their money without doing things via a solicitor. When/if I sign up for a shop the contract between us would be written legally written up.

Bascially, I was hoping to find someone of my age or over who has experienced the same feeling of desolate. For someone to say, "yer I've been there and found a way out by doing ...." or "I'm in the same place and would be interested in becoming a business partner".

I need a mature person. I don't want a young person who speaks in a language that I can barely understand, or where everything is done with the latest technology that leaves me baffled. Just someone who is on the same level as me and is willing to take a chance.

The sum of just £1000.00 is because that is the total amount that I can put forward myself.

I do have a business plan but I am not willing to show it to anyone unless they are serious and willing to meet up with me.

However, after saying all that. Someone last week advised me to claim benefits. I took their advice and to my amazement, once approved I will get money paid directly into my bank account every 2 weeks (I dont know how much), the interest on my mortgage paid, a huge discount on my council tax, free prescriptions, and the list goes on.

I should be rubbing my hands together and smiling like a Cheshire Cat but I'm not. In fact, I feel like I've failed. Surely there's nothing wrong with wanting financial independance is there?

After 3 months of claiming benefits I may be entitled to an interest free small business loan. I have got myself onto a SME course this Friday were I will ask about this.

If there is anyone out there who has found themselves unemployable please do write and share it with me. I feel so redundant right now.

Re: Investors Wanted

What were you living on before then? You said you`d been unemployed for years? You can`t be married and living off your OH or you wouldn`t get benefits.
So...?

Not years, I've been unemployed since May 2010. I've been living off my saving which I had saved up to spend on my new house.

Re: Investors Wanted

Shopkeeper, I feel for you matey.

Like you I have not been employed since early last year and it does get you down I know only too well. I am older than you too! unlike you I DONT GET ANY BENEFITS. I have to watch nearly £200 a month go out of my savings just to pay the Council Tax!

The investors you are looking for need the money themselves.

When I read your post I thought you wanted multiple investors of £1000. That would ahve been more credible. It is unlikely any business apart from selling on e bay from home can be started with just £2k.

If you are genuine and I think you are but naive, have you thought about going on Dragons Den?

Re: Investors Wanted

If you have been working you have been paying tax, so I don`t see the huge problem with claiming benefits? It`s your money after all. I take it you`re not going to refuse your pension?
It would have been more practical to find out the benefits and help to get back into work, would it not? I am only saying this in case someone else is in your position and is put off claiming the help they are entitled to. There are courses, help with CVs, interviews etc - it`s not just signing on these days.

a) Get yourself down the SS office and get a claim in for your unempoyment benefits, as Claire has said they don't just hand out money they are there to help you with interviews, advise on what other benefits you might get and even send you on courses about how to go about getting a job, it's not like it was 20 or 30 years ago.

b) I suspect that you've been unemployed since May2010 because you've been looking in the area you know best and where you have worked for most, if not all, of your life, sorry but the world is moving on, high tech IT may not be your future but please PLEASE look at changing career.

c) Eventually the unemployment benefits will run out so before then think about getting a job with Tesco as a shelf stacker, the man who was running Tesco (until he retired yesterday) started as a shelf stacker in a tiny Tesco store Have you registered with any recruitment agencies, some specialise but some offer general labouring type jobs. before you say 'that's not me' let me tell you I've done labouring on a building site in my time

And NO I was not expecting you to publish your 'Business Plan' on this very public forum what I was trying to do is give you some idea of the sort of things that a Bank Small Business Adviser will want to know, if you've already prepared a plan that's great.

I still say that if you and your business partner are thinking that £2K will suffice for a start up then you really need to look at your figures again, how will you attract customers without advertising and that could easily swallow £2K in the first year

So, you're not running a scam, you are genuine in wanting to get back into paid employment, you just need to widen your field of view and utilise the help that is there waiting, why not pop back from time to time and tell us how you're getting on.

Quite right Claire, I think the government finally realised this about 15or so years ago, getting a job is a job in itself and needs to be approached that way. Filing all aplications, follow up phone calls, reviewing interviews (Where did I go wrong type discussion with oneself) When looking for a job one needs to get out of bed at the same one always did, organise, search, make phone calls, etc.

So many people think 'Oh I'll just have a little holiday and then I'll get down to looking for a job' before they know it that 'little' holiday has become a 'long' holiday and then a 'permanent' holiday. When I was 'between' contracts I used to do anything, you'd be amazed at some of the jobs I've had

Re: Investors Wanted

The ordinary Tesco jobs are being chased by everyone who desparatley needs work. I know of a scaffolder who is doing evening cleaning to make ends meet.

Nothing wrong with that, I did a cleaning job in a supernmarket, had to get up at 04:00 to start at 05:00 and after finishing at 07:30 went on to my 'proper' job
